Dr. Lalit Shah has been practising as a Consultant Urologist since 1983 in Chhattisgarh. As a pioneering urologist in the region, he is credited with being instrumental in developing the urology specialisation in the state. He has been running the Jagjivan Urology Centre in Raipur since 1994.

Apart from an MBBS and an MS in General Surgery (both from Pt. JNM Medical College, Raipur), Dr. Shah has an MCh Urology degree from PGIMER Chandigarh. In addition, he has the added distinction of having completed his LLB, and also functions as a Medico-Legal expert. In urology, his main areas of interest are TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) and urethroplasty. He has published and presented several papers relating to his areas of expertise, at various urology conferences.

Dr. Lalit Shah is a life member and office-bearer of many professional associations. He has served the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) in various capacities, and has been involved in activities such as the formation of the Chhattisgarh unit of the association, conducting membership drives, organising the CGASICON meet, etc.

Dr. Shah is actively involved in the professional risk management of doctors in Chhattisgarh, as Managing Director of Premier Medico-Legal Consultants Pvt. Ltd. (since 2007). He defends doctors in medical negligence cases in consumer courts, and offers continuing medico-legal education programmes for the doctors. He has delivered more than 100 lectures on topics such as medical record keeping, death on the operation table, informed consent, preventing medical and surgical errors, landmark judgements in medical negligence cases, method of defence in medical negligence cases, etc. He was awarded the SS Anand Endowment Lecture 2011 on the subject of medical record keeping, by the ASI for ASICON 2011.
